Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, SAN

Mr. Okutepa is an astute legal practitioner of great repute and industry; regularly described as an iconic legal salamander. Mr. Okutepa attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria on 7th July, 2011.

Mr. Okutepa was appointed Notary Public of Nigeria by the Hon. Justice M. L. Uwais, Chief Justice of Nigeria (As He then was) in 2001.

Mr. Okutepa has led several teams of lawyers since his call to the Nigeria Bar in 1991 in several landmark cases for individuals, corporations and Government/Government Agencies and has by these efforts contributed immensely to the development of the Nigerian jurisprudence; these cases enjoy constant law reporting.

Mr. Okutepa has also led outstanding efforts in huge debt/entitlements recovery for corporate and individual clients through negotiations, conciliation and litigation; recovering and enforcing judgments that run in Billions of Naira.

As an astute Bar man for over two decades, Mr. Okutepa is a leading voice and National Executive Council (NEC) member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). He is the Lead Prosecutor of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) at the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) on ethical issues affecting the bar and is also a member of the General Council of the Bar (GCB). He has also been an active member of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA) and the International Bar Association (IBA) for over a decade.

Following his outstanding contribution in human rights efforts, Mr. Okutepa enjoys appointments as Legal Adviser to several bodies, Unions/Organizations and corporations and in recognition of his efforts and contributions to legal development; Mr. Okutepa has received numerous merit awards from different individuals and organizations.

Mr. Okutepa’s legal contributions are extensive; he is a regular conference speaker at Law and other Conferences and has written well over 30 conferences papers.
Mr. Okutepa is married and blessed with Children and Grand Children.

Mr. John A. Matthew, Esq.

Mr. John Abimiku Matthew attended Government Science School Kuru, School of Preliminary Studies, Keffi, and graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where from he obtained his Degree in Law 1989. Mr. Matthew received his training to qualify for Call to the Nigeria Bar in the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and was called to the Nigeria Bar in 1990.

Mr. Mathew gained experience in the course of National Youth Service in the firm of Hussaini Abdulrahman and Company between 1990 and 1991. He worked and gained further experience in the Civil Liberties Organisation between 1991 and 1993 before founding the firm of Abimiku and Company in 1993.

Mr. Matthew brings his wide range of experience, exposure and reputation as a Senior Member of the bar to the firm since joining the prestigious list of Associates in 2015. Mr. Matthew has been an active Associate of the Firm bringing great experience, exposure and positive influence on complex issues and matters in which the firm is engaged.

Mr. Matthew has over the course of his career as a highly respected legal practitioner of repute represented Clients in and out of all Courts of in Nigeria. He has also consulted for corporate Clients with local and international base.

Mr. F. R. Onoja, Esq.

Mr. Friday Ramses Onoja attended the prestigious University of Jos where from he obtained his Degree in Law 1996. Mr. Onoja received his training to qualify for Call to the Nigeria Bar in the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and was called to the Nigeria Bar in 1998.

Mr. Onoja gained experience in legal Practice while in the employ of Ibrahim Buba and Company between 1999 and 2002, and the firm of Akinwimi Ajibola and Associates between 2002-2006. in 2006 He founded Country Chambers.

Mr. Onoja brings his wide range of experience, exposure and reputation as a Senior Member of the bar to the firm since joining the prestigious list of Associates in 2015. J. J. USMAN, LL.B, BL, LL.M, Ph. D (in view), FICMC, Chartered Mediator (Partner)

Mr Usman Graduated from the University of Jos with second class upper and was called to Nigerian Bar in 2006. He also obtained Master’s Degree in Law from the same University of Jos.

He specializes in Civil and Criminal Litigations, Constitutional law, Commercial Law (including recovery of debts), Oil and Gas, Legal Drafting and Election Petitions.

He practiced law in Lokoja, Makurdi, Akure, Kaduna before moving the Head office of J. J. Usman & Co, Abuja to continue his general practice of Law.

He has a bias for litigation and has appeared in all the superior Courts in Nigeria and had conducted cases in about 30 states of Nigeria, having vast knowledge in Civil and Criminal Law and Procedure.

He has handled various aspects of controversial constitutional cases, commercial law and practice. He is also a Chartered Mediator and is involved in research.

Sylvia Enny Okopi, Esq.

Miss Sylvia Okopi is the Head of Chambers in the firm’s main office in Abuja with an eclectic blend of over 12 years’ experience in dispute resolution mechanisms including Mediation, Arbitration and Litigation.

As a Lawyer, she has particular interests in Aviation, Banking and Finance, Tax Practices and Corporate/Commercial regulatory compliances framework. Her passion lies especially in Fundamental Rights enforcement particularly as it relates to Gender/Social inclusion and child protection.

Sylvia was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. She holds an LL.M – International Finance Law from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. She also is an Alumni of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria having obtained an LL.B (Hons.) Civil Law degree from the University.

She is a member of several professional Associations including, The Nigerian Bar Association (Unity Bar Branch), Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), Association of Professional Negotiators and Mediators (APNM) and an ardent member of the International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA).

Martin Oge Ozueh, Esq.

Mr. Ozueh obtained an LL.B (Hons.) from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 2004. He qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2007 was called to the Nigeria Bar in the same year. Mr. Ozueh joined the firm in 2008 and has actively participated and led teams of lawyers in civil, criminal and election petition cases with outstanding success.

Mr. Ozueh has an outstanding record in corporate commercial practice and is remarkable for his efforts as a solicitor in the areas of negotiation, debt recovery and property/estate management. Mr. Ozueh who serves as the Head of Chambers in the Makurdi office is happily married with children. He is a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Mrs. Atochi Chimere Uchin

Mrs. Uchin obtained an LL.B (Hons.) from Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt in 2006. She qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2007 was called to the Nigeria Bar in the same year.

Mrs. Uchin spent her first years in Springhill Solicitors, Port Harcourt until 2011. She joined the firm in 2011 and now serves as the Deputy Head of Chambers in Makurdi office. Mrs. Uchin has been involved in active litigation practice and enjoys spending time in legal research and drafting. Mrs. Uchin married and blessed with children. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Miss Adaeze Juachi Ezete

Miss Ezete obtained Bsc. Pol. Science from Enugu State University, Enugu in 2004. She also obtained an LL.B (Hons.) from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu in 2006. She qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2008 was called to the Nigeria Bar in the same year.

Miss Ezete spent her first years in practice with the firm of Ikechukwu Uzuegbu and Co. (2009 – 2010) and gained further experience in the firm of Chief Mike Mamman Osuman SAN and company (2010 -2014). Miss Ezete is an Associate of the firm and brings years of valuable experience in legal research and litigation. Miss Ezete is a member of the International Women Lawyers Association, National Human Rights Activists of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Bar Association.

Ocholi O. Okutepa, Esq.

 O. Okutepa, EsqMr. Ocholi Okutepa obtained an LL.B (Hons.) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2008 and qualified and was called to the Nigeria Bar as Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2009. Mr. Okutepa holds a Master’s Degree in oil and Gas Law (LLM, 2014) from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK. He has been a member of the firm since 2009 and has actively participated and led cases in civil, criminal and election petition cases with outstanding success.

Mr. Okutepa has undertaken in-depth research on the rights of an accused person under the Nigeria legal system; MFN clauses under international treaties and the interpretation of the clause in international investment arbitration; the vexed and unsettled issue of the status/operation of joint operating agreements (JOA’s) in the energy sector; and The Norwegian model of Oil sector governance, lessons for Nigeria. His research interests in international investments/arbitration and corporate commercial practice has seen him consult for and retained by highly reputable organisations.

Mr. Okutepa is a P3 (Public Private Partnerships) trained specialist (Alumnus of Institute of Public, Private Partnerships (iP3) and International Law Institute) (ILI), both in Washington DC, USA

Mr. Okutepa is married with children. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar and the International Bar Associations.

Ede Uko, ESQ

 E. Uko EsqMr. Uko is a multi-disciplinary trained professional and this has impacted heavily on his delivery as an Advocate/Solicitor with an eye for quality, attention to details and fierce stance for excellence. He holds an NCE Certification from the College of Education, Oju, Benue State 1998. Mr. Uko holds an LL.B (Hons.) degree from Benue State University, Makurdi, 2007.

He qualified and was called to the Nigeria Bar in 2009 as an advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He joined the firm in 2010, rising to rank of Head of Corporate practice in 2012. Mr. Uko has developed an outstanding practice with profound intelligence demonstrated through quality legal research/drafting; marshalling of arguments and remarkable advocacy in courts. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Demas Msugther Tsevende Esq, BL, LLB (Hons), DIL.

 

Mr. Tsevende holds a Diploma in Law (2003) and also an LL.B (Hons) (2009) from Benue State University Makurdi. He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School in 2010 and was called to the Bar in 2011. Due to his remarkable and outstanding performance during his chambers attachment at the Law firm of J. S. Okutepa SAN and Co., Mr. Tsevende was retained as a Counsel in Chambers in 2011 immediately after his qualification as Barrister and solicitor. He is currently the Head of Litigation in the Makurdi office.

Mr. Tsevende, fondly called Lord Demas is highly proficient in litigation advocacy, legal drafting, corporate practice and debt recovery amongst others areas of law. He is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association and is happily married with children.

Ojonimi Sunday Apeh, Esq.

‘Nimi is an alumni of the Kogi State University, Anyingba where he obtained a Bachelors of Law degree (LL.B Hons.) in 2010. Heh qualified and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2012. ‘Nimi is joined the firm of J.s Okutepa SAN and Company in 2014 and with diligence has risen to become the Head of Research and Documentation of the Law firm. Prior to that he was a Counsel at the firm of I.O Peters & Associates.

Mr Apeh has distinguished himself as a leader having been the President of the Legal Aid Clinic and got the award of the Youth Corp member of the year, as a Coper serving in Ibadan, Oyo State. He has particular interest in Election Petition and he is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Joy Eke Adah, Esq.

Joy Adah obtained an LL.B (Hons.) from Kogi State University in 2011. She qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2012 was called to the Nigeria Bar in the same year. She joined the firm in 2012 on secondment in the firm from the National Youth service Scheme. For her remarkable understanding of the law, display of great intelligence and quality of legal practice during her NYSC was retained as substantive lawyer with the firm and since then has been involved in active litigation practice, corporate/commercial law, drafting and researching.

Joy Adah is married and blessed with a child. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Khadija Ahmed Danfulani, Esq.

 Khadija holds an LL.B (Hons.) degree (2012) from the Nassarawa State University, Keffi.. She qualified and was allowed to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of Nigeria in 2014. Prior to joining the firm of J. S Okutepa SAN and Company in 2017, she had the opportunity of interning with Intelligent Minds …. And also as to prosecute as a State Counsel with the ministry Of Justice (Department of Public Prosecutions). She has special interests in administration of Criminal justice and Information technology and Communications Law.

Khadija is skilled in Client Counseling, litigation, legal research and process documentation. She is an Active member of the Nigerian Bar Association. 

Onu Shedrack Achem, Esq.

 Mr. Onu Shedrak Achem Esq, Mr Onu Shedrak Achem hail from dekinna local government area of kogi state. He holds a bachelor of law degree (LL. B HONS) from Madonna University Okija Anambra State. He attended the Nigerian law school Lagos campus and was duly called to the Nigeria Bar, July 2015, as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Mr. Onu is interested in corporate law practice, property law, commercial law practice and litigation. He is a member of the Nigeria Bar Association Abuja.

Helen John Apeh – Augustine, Esq

 

Helen John Apeh- Augustine is an alumni of the University of Jos having obtained an LLB (Hons.) in 2013. She qualified as a barrister and Solicitor in Nigeria in 2015 haven attended the Nigerian Law School Yanegoa, Bayelsa State.

Helen had her legal pupillage at the law firm of Ajare Noah and Co. in 2016, after which she joined the Law firm J. S. Okutepa SAN and Company as a Counsel in Chambers. Mrs Helen, is passionate about the Administration of Criminal Justice in Nigeria especially as it relates to Bail Applications. She has published an article titled, ‘Detention without Trial; An appraisal in the Administration of Criminal Justice in July 2013’. She is also the Chief Editor of the Maiden Edition of Confluence Legal Minds Magazine.

Her hobbies include Reading, Advocacy and Volleyball. Helen is a committed member of the Nigerian Bar and is happily married to Dr. Augustine Evangel Ikpo.

Godwin Eneojo Awulu, Esq.

Mr Godwin holds a Bachelors of Law degree (LL.B Hons.) from Madonna University, Okija Anambra State. He attended the Abuja Campus of the Nigerian Law School and was duly called to the Nigerian Bar in 2016.

Mr Godwin is interested in Legal research, corporate governance practice, Property Law and Litigation. He is a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Abodia Okutepa, Esq

Abodia is from Kogi State and holds a Bachelors of Law degree (LL.B Hons.) degree from the Kogi State University, Ayingba, Kogi state. She qualified and was called to the Nigerian Bar to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in 2015.

She joined the firm in 2016 and has developed with profound intelligence through quality legal research and drafting. Abodia is Interested is interested in Legal research, corporate/commercial practice and litigation. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Samuel Terkura Akohol, Esq. L.L.b (Hons) BA.

S. T. Akohol, EsqMr. Akohol a Bachelors of Law LL.B (Hons.) degree from Benue State University Makurdi (2009). He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2013 having attended the Bwari Abuja branch of the Nigeria Law School. S. T. Akohol, Esq. He joined the Law firm of J.S. Okutepa SAN and Company in December, 2013 as a Counsel in chamber.

He is also the Assistant Head of Research and Statistics (DRS) iht efirms Makurdi Office. Samuel Terkura Akohol, Esq. is an experienced Litigator, Arbitrator and Legal Draftsman. His interests includes Advocacy, Reading, Traveling and Humanitarian Services.

Udochukwu E. Iwuala, Esq

Mr.  Iwuala graduated from the Imo State University, Owerri having obtained a Second class Upper degree in Laws in 2016. He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Yola Campus where, haven passed the Bar finals examination, he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2017.

Mr. Iwuala is currently a Corper of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) program posted to Benue State and primarily working at the Makurdi office of J. S Okutepa SAN & Company. He is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association, a public/motivational speaker and has great flare for politics as he is the President of the NYSC Corp Legal Aid C.D.S group in Makurdi, Benue State.
